本專案所製作之光碟教材主要目標係提供民眾奈米科技普及之學習教材，運用電腦資訊和網頁多媒體的特色，以「通俗化」、「生動化」、「本土化」、「結合教學課程」為目標，將原本深奧的奈米科技，透過電腦互動、動畫、圖解之呈現等方式，以生動易懂之方式讓使用者得以融入學習之情境中，並於教材中特別以現階段台灣發展奈米科技之成就以及對全球的貢獻為重點，以彰顯我國對於致力奈米科技之成果。
The teaching material on internet for life-long learning: “Nanometer Era” was financially supported by Ministry of Education and the NSTM was charged with the planning and executive parts. It provided popular scientific teaching materials of nanometer technologies for the public featured websites, multimedia and information technologies. It also aimed to join the teaching curricula to popularize, vivify and localize the abstruse nanometer technologies through computer technologies, animations and pictures which allowed the users to be able to join in a pleasant learning environment for such.
