JAMES SULLIVAN traveled solo by bicycle from Saigon to Hanoi along Route No. 1 in Vietnam in 1992; this trip led to the publication of Over the Moat, a love story set among the footprints of Imperial Vietnam. He has written for National Geographic Traveler, The New York Times, and other publications. He lives with his wife and two children in Hue, where he is writing a novel set in Vietnam.
