In 2003 Kye and Gill faced a daunting challenge when drought struck their sanctuary. With hay prices soaring and resources dwindling, they grapple with the heartbreaking reality of being unable to feed their precious camels and other rescued animals if they remain on their five-acre property.
Driven by a deep love for their animals, they decide to sell their block in Alice Springs and embark on a remarkable journey to find a new home that will change their lives forever. In a wagon built by Gill and pulled by camels, they travel through some of Australia’s most inhospitable terrain with their huge family of rescued camels, dogs, doves, parrots, goats, a donkey and their old rooster, The Colonel and his nine hens.
Kye shares with wit and vulnerability the challenges and triumphs of this daunting leap of faith. From lying injured and exhausted, sobbing in the dirt, craving fags, she didn’t have, to the exhilaration and freedom of the open road and the wild unknown.
’Love We Live’ is an inspirational story about living beyond limitations, never giving up and believing in yourself even when others don’t.
