Essays on Cartography and
Astronomy by Tomas Londan
Our theme here is the "lost" continent of Atlantis which we think was
never lost but simply rose and sank under gradually changing sea levels.
What did get lost over the ages of Man was the concept of Earth as a
globe; also ancient society as cosmopolitan with global trade of goods and
data. Ancient charts hidden during the dark ages tell a story of their own.
The other "lost" lands were Hyperborea, Ultima Thule, Thule - Greenland
and Iceland respectively - and Mu. Basic idea: What we now call North
America was once called Atlantis by scholars of the Old World. See Plato
and King Alexander. Why the odd name? Too many books under the same
title. Why not be unique? Mu was probably what we now call South America.
