本書為：《臺北市立動物園百年史》的英文版簡史，記載臺北市立動物園如何從一個地方上的前近代動物園，走向一家國際級的現代化動物園。從圓山到木柵，經歷了日本的統治、戰後初期的困頓、1970年代的轉折，到今天現代化的大動物園，同時側記了臺灣社會百年的發展，敘述了動物園與社會的互動。本書專為國外民眾及專業人士編纂，文字淺顯要約，搭配大量圖片，以與各界分享。

This book is the concise English edition of “A Century of Taipei Zoo: 1914~2014” (Chinese), which records how Taipei Zoo went from a pre-modern local zoo and headed towards becoming a world-class modernized zoo. From Yuanshan to Muzha, the Zoo experienced Japanese rule, the hardship during early post-war period, and the turning point during the 1970s, until today’s big modernized zoo, and also sidelights the development of Taiwan society in the past century, and narrates the interaction between the Zoo and the society. This book is compiled specifically for foreigners, as well as professionals, with plain and brief text, along with a large amount of pictures, so as to share with the community.
