The collapse of formwork shoring in construction involves design, construction, and materials. The review of dangerous workplaces has been carried out by the government for many years, revealing that many infrastructure projects are implemented in accordance with the blueprint and the strength of shoring members conforms to the requirements of the design, but that the accuracy of the design can be a problem. The main reason for this is that design codes in Taiwan have not been brought up to the standards of those currently used in the advanced countries, so that professional engineers lack the design codes they need for the correct designing of formwork shoring. As a result, temporary supports have a high potential for collapse.
The results of the study will benefit agencies in charge of construction projects, supervisors, contractors and their professional engineers, consulting companies, and civil and structural engineers, who can use our design guidelines to design formwork shoring. The goal is to achieve the safe design of temporary supports and protect workers from accidents when setting up temporary supports.
