Book One is the beginning of our trilogy. Alice Roanoke is an young American journalist from Cleveland, Ohio who was abducted by a UFO at 3:20 AM on July 20 of 1978. She is also a member of the local National Guard in good standing. Like David Vincent in the old TV series, she was stranded out in the country on a dark and lonely hiway by a petrol station. She tries to call a friend back in town from a phone booth but is mesmerized by an unseen craft overhead. One week later she wakes up in a strange suite high above the streets of some large alien city. It seems to be tropical; even with smog, and resembles any urban sprawl back on Earth, but some of the details are a bit off.... One can tell this cannot be Earth! Alice is locked into this suite with her uniform, arms, more clothes, lots of food, not to mention wine, beer, brandy, tobacco, pot and books. Also a primitive home computer, the Apple II which to her is new. With this, she can talk with some unseen entity called Zenobia. Her task is to learn Arts of the Occult, such as ESP, OBE, levitation - not only for Tibetan monks but folks from America! And as Zeno hopes, much more. Eventually our prisoner escapes her luxury suite up on Floor 66 of 334 Seaside Boulevard - the one of broken dreams no doubt - so she can explore this gigantic conurbation called Gulf City which seems to be Paradise. Anxiety rises within her as she finds out that most of these buildings stand empty and overgrown by jungle. In fact the entire planet is just as empty. Why? Alice makes friends and relaxes with the natives. Yet soon, after an innocent beach party with Xiotan natives a battle erupts out of the blue. Alice learns that this planet in the Epsilon Eridan System is being contested by rival empires from other stars. After a few months of adventure on Xiotan - including the wonders of MS-DOS - she is returned to Earth on a mission for the Empire of Zeno. In the sequel, Book Two, she is to infiltrate NASA.
