This seminar is a fascinating way to introduce young students to many aspects of geography and history by focusing on trade and the spread of ideas along the Silk Road and spice routes, and thus the impact of geography and trade on the spread of civilization.
Through a set of 13 lesson plans to guide the teacher, students look at trade, exploration, and some of the ways in which people have overcome difficulties and increased their quality of life by communicating and sharing knowledge (religion, art, technology, commodities, ideas) with other groups. The seminar provides many opportunities to focus on the adventure of history, the people involved, their creativity, ingenuity and resourcefulness.
