The works of Amy Tan deserve utmost attention as she champions the cause of women who are victimized in a tradition bound society and who display the required fortitude and patience to overcome the hurdles in their lives. Further, the voice of the novelist is distinctly heard in every novel as she empathizes with the plight of women. Amy Tan's perspectives on motherhood which ails from certain social and traditional maladies. The current study critiques mother-daughter relationship in her fictional works taking into account the situations confronted by immigrant mothers and American born daughters. The choice of the novels is based on the motif and thematic richness. However, other fictional and non-fictional works of Amy Tan have been discussed precisely as per the contextual requirement. The Joy Luck Club (1989), The Kitchen God's Wife (1991), The Bonesetter's Daughter (2001) and The Valley of Amazement (2013) are some of her literary works selected for in depth analysis of the theme.
