Lin Elizabeth's Cherry Spitter is simultaneously a brave and ferocious collection of writing. It is a cathartic scream against oppression and trauma, formed from the remaining pieces of the writer. Cherry Spitter is a graphic and gritty account that weaves everyday symbols into complex emotions. Elizabeth's visceral descriptions make for an unfiltered rollercoaster of a book that flows seamlessly. However, I found myself revisiting certain sections of the book simply to experience the wonderful wordplay and vivid metaphors. Her writing was not intended to be medicine for others with similar experiences. Rather, it feels like Elizabeth's personal experience was meant to inspire others to find their own unique solutions to their unique situations. This text is a confession, a dissolution and an exorcism that was written to be read and enjoyed several times over.
