As the 70th anniversary of their destruction approaches, Odyssey tells the story of these uniquely twinned cities using literary extracts from Socrates, Murasaki Shikibu, St Francis Xavier, Tokugawa Ieyasu, Commodore Perry, Vincent Van Gogh, Giacomo Puccini, Jack London, Sun Yat Sen, D. T. Suzuki, Eleanor Roosevelt, Josef Stalin, Winston Churchill, Dame Edith Sitwell, Keiji Nakazawa, Shusaku Endo, Kenzaburo Oe, Eugene Smith, John Hersey, Muddy Waters, Akira Kurosawa, Jonathan Schell and many more.Odyssey also uses rarely seen photographs and documents to tell the full story of what led up to the bombings, in the hope it will spark discussion and debate about nuclear weapons and their place in the modern world. Odyssey will also show the cities as they are today, showing the resilience of their citizens by rebuilding after total destruction.
