In 1949, NBC brought mustachioed Irish-American actor Brian Donlevy to the radio microphones as international troubleshooter Steve Mitchell in the spy series Dangerous Assignment. Mitchell worked for an un-named US government intelligence agency; whose boss, The Commissioner, dispatched him to world trouble spots. Mitchell’s assignment was to solve problems in record time, and in accordance with US interests. The radio series lasted three seasons (1949-1953) due in part to Donlevy’s terrific performances and the mystique of the foreign locations and situations, which radio listeners could create in their “theatre of the mind.” During its last year on radio, Donlevy formed a production company to convert the series to television, producing 39 episodes for syndication. Enjoy 12 exciting, half-hour radio adventures of globe-trotting troubleshooter Steve Mitchell as he solves another Dangerous Assignment. 12/16/50 “Recover Missing Civil War Map” 12/30/50 “Intercept Dr. Korvel Before Opposition” 2/10/51 “Recover the Kroner Cutlass” 4/7/51 “Recover File 72, Seal Unbroken” 7/10/51 “Stop ‘Shanghai Lady’ and the China Sea Smuggling” 11/3/51 “Find Fugitive Nazi, Captain Schiller” 1/7/53 “Smash Gun-Running Operation” 1/21/53 “Smash Strategic Materials Leaks” 4/15/53 “Find Lenny Fenway and Get Him Out of Tibet” 4/22/53 “Bait a Trap with ‘Nikolai Debarov’” 4/29/53 “Put an End to Anti-Submarine Base Sabotage” 5/27/53 “Find a Hired Assassin”
