北京故宮博物院內收藏的明末至清中葉活動於統治者冷落了金陵地區畫家的藝術，而許多金陵地區畫家基於政治原因也大都無視清代權貴。因此，在清宮的繪畫著錄中，除了極個別的如明末朱之藩、程正揆等人之作品見於紀錄外，當時很少入藏金陵地區畫家的作品。故宮所藏的這些真品，主要是在二十世紀五十年代至六十年代中期收進的文物，其數量之眾、畫藝之精為海內之首。
