Read and Think! is a four-level graded reading course that uses engaging real-world topics presented in the form of articles, plays, stories and letters to engage, motivate and challenge your students.
The main readings in each unit give two points of view on the same topic, leading to optional debate topics for students to discuss in class. These debates are supplemented by Debate strategies that provide language support for students.
The Debate strategies can also be used as a stepping stone to writing by consolidating the material introduced in the unit, encouraging students to form opinions and to effectively create an argument to support those opinions, and prompting students to conduct online research in order to write more extensively about the topic.
An audio program consisting of CDs and cassettes offers the option of integrating a listening component into the course or offering a self-study component. Each of the twenty-four main readings within each level is recorded with authentic American accents that develop confidence and familiarity listening to native speakers.
With Read and Think!, students learn to read and think with purpose by using a variety of Reading strategies that help students interpret, organize and think about what they read. Language notes supplement the readings providing easily-accessible student support. Points of cultural curiosity and confusion also supplement the topic in the form of Culture notes. A comprehensive collection of Exam strategies offer students practical advice to improve pre-exam preparation and exam taking technique.
