本書為「物件奇想：鄭亭亭概念影像展」之專輯，《物件奇想》當中，藝術家鄭亭亭用攝影、物品跟語言來探討外來性跟身份認同的議題。旅居倫敦的鄭亭亭，在多重文化的影響下，作品主要在表現全球化社會下，外來者與在地者互動間的文化隔閡，不同人種之間的語言障礙及對於不同國家的刻板印象。對她而言，物品跟語言是空間及文化認同的象徵，反應在面對異文化時，所產生介於熟悉與不熟悉之間的不確定性以及在不同文化間所產生的心理距離與異國情調。
