Sixty years ago, under the joint initiative and founding sponsorship of the following
three state leaders: President Chiang Kai-shek of the Republic of China, President
Syngman Rhee of the Republic of Korea, and President Elpidio Quirino of the Republic
of the Philippines, the “Asian Peoples’ Anti-Communist League, APACL” was
established with the mission and goal to stop the fast expansion of the communist forces
in Asia. After 12 years of advocating anti-communism, the APACL had rapidly developed
in full-fledged manner from Asia to the whole world until it actually became a worldwide
organization, the “World Anti-Communist League, WACL” in 1967. However, due to the
fall and collapse of major communist forces, the WACL was renamed as the “World
League for Freedom and Democracy, WLFD” in 1991 in order to strive for recruiting
more people to join the fight for freedom and democracy.
Based on the profound documents of the APACL and the WLFD, this book is simply
aiming to loyally record the historic truth of their anti-communist movements and their
pursuit of freedom and democracy. With systematic arrangement of the contents, it clearly
reveals the history of those people who worked hard to fight against tyranny in order to
pursue freedom and democracy. As a member of UN NGOs, the WLFD not only
advocates the track II diplomacy without distinction as to political affiliation under the
guidelines of the national policy, but also actively promote the development of freedom
and democracy around the world. It is the common asset for all people. Hopefully the
publication of this book could let more young people of the new generation appreciate the
precious value of freedom and even further cooperate actively with the WLFD to protect
the human rights and promote the development of freedom and democracy around the
world.
