Temporary Insanity
What to do when I am about to get angry
Scold ourselves first
Because others are non-existent
Over two thousand years ago
Master Zhuang-zi narrated a story,
When two boats collided into each other
if there are people on board the boats
We would be furious
If there are no people on board the boats
Instead, we would think it is unlucky
So, we must treat this situation as if there are no people on
board the boat
So we would not become angry with an empty boat’
She was going to drive the car, yet the car has no petrol
The wife was so desperate that she scolded her husband
Why didn’t he filled up the petrol before driving
The husband laughed and said
Yes I have filled up some three months ago.
Since there is no counter reaction to anger
she has no way to retaliate
When I was young
I was hot-tempered, with a very impatient character
If my family could not keep up with my pace
I would get furious
Just like the bulging thorn, ever ready to prick people
My Qigong teacher said
Take a deep and long breath, count to ten in silence
Squat down
Look at the horizontal plane lower than me
Close your eyes
Accept your imperfections
Also accept others’ incapacity
throwing temper is just your instinct
controlling your temper is your capability
You can always find a sense of humor in anything
If you can just smile
You would not get angry
Then you would not ignite heated anger
Throwing one’s temper is temporary insanity
It would spoil cordial friendships
Damage our personal image, and our inner cultivation
When we get angry
It is like shooting an arrow at others
When we cool down our temper
The arrow is taken out
The spiritual mind however would be left with scars
No matter how many times we [apologize]
The scars would remain forever
Please don’t ever allow ourselves to get mad
Allow instead to set ourselves free
If one does not have a sufficient emotional bank account
Then do not let love turn it into debt
