This information-based independent learning unit may be used for group, whole-class, or individual study. It is a comprehensive study unit on birds; as such, one of its primary objectives is to introduce youngsters to basic concepts and fascinating facts about these members of the animal kingdom. Another important objective is to instill in the students an appreciation of the value of all living creatures. There is, however, a third and equally-important goal of the unit: the development of crucial critical and creative thinking skills.
