An abandoned young boy, Heathcliff, is brought up with a brother and sister, Catherine and Hindley. Hindley despises Heathcliff, but Catherine falls in love with him, and Heathcliff with her. Neither will admit their love so Catherine marries a neighbour, Edgar Linton and Heathcliff marries Edgar''s sister Isabella. Catherine then dies and Heathcliff takes out his misery on the children of the two marriages.
